Big Al

I went to see my friend Judy play at the Acoustic Tavern last night here in Bellingham and it happened to be a Brewers Night there too. It was my first one and I guess the idea is to get a handful of a brewers beer (Big Al Brewery, in this case from Seattle) on tap and let everyone enjoy it and then give away free stuff. I had their Belgium IPA and the Poppa Charlie's Pale Ale, they both were very tasty. I really like their slogan though: Live your dreams, drink ours.

By the way - great job Judy!

Cream cheese stuffed dates

My last post was of zucchini fritters off of the great food blog Closet Cooking and I keep going back for more amazing photos of food and simple recipes. I just discovered this one for cream cheese stuffed dates. It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I starting liking dates. My mom would always make these date pinwheels around the holidays, but since they had dates in them I thought they were gross... boy was I wrong! Of course the pinwheels are irresistible, but dates by themselves are so sweet and chewy. I can't wait to try this recipe!

zucchini fritters

I love fritters of any kind, especially corn fritters. But these zucchini ones I found on Closet Cooking were SO amazing last night for dinner. I added garlic which overpowered them a little, don't think I'd it next time. They are great in a wheat pita with chopped tomatoes and tzatiki sauce.

Skagit Tulip Festival

I feel so lucky to live as close as I do to Skagit County. The annual tulip festival is something someone should see once in their life, at least. I even hear that it is better than the ones in Holland! Tip: don't go on weekends unless you love traffic and gobs of flower loving people.
