50 miles - longest to date

Good Morning and happy FRIDAY! I am very ready for my fun filled weekend, just have to get through 8 hours of work first...

Last night Rebecca and I set off on what would be both of our longest rides, EVER. Exciting huh? 50 miles was planned, so we had to start relatively early to make sure we had enough daylight.

We headed out our usual route, but then just kept going for 10 more miles. It took us past Birch Bay state park into the actual town, which I had never seen in the daylight. It is a cute little waterside town! Cute houses right on the water, a nice path for running or walking and a great road for biking. It was a major plus that the sun was out too.

Once my Cateye hit 25 miles, we turned around and headed back a different way on new roads neither of us had ridden. They were nice rolling hill roads, nothing intense, but a nice challenge after having 25+ miles on my legs. At about 8pm, we were still 8-10 miles away from home and between the both of us, we only had 1 light. NOT SAFE! I have been caught lightless in the dark before and I hated it! I know cars get pissed cause they can't see you, I get frusterated cause I can't see the road, it just isn't fun. So we peddeled quickly and got home.

The final stats were 50 miles in 3:25. LONG RIDE! The only thing that is sore this morning are my quads when I walk up the stairs, other than that, I'm feeling good!

Today is my off day and I need it. I can feel my body yearning for rest, so I'm going to listen to it. Tomorrow AA and I are headed to Lopez Island to hang out with my sister and brother-in-law at their cabin to celebrate my sister's birthday. A nice relaxing weekend with family, friends and wine! Yes!

What are you up to this weekend?

  3. Our exploits are famous now. I felt good after 50 miles too; it made me more confident for the full 204.

    Maybe 60 miles next week?

    Yeeha,
