Ski to Sea - Bellingham's big event. It is a relay race on Memorial Day weekend that starts and the mountains and ends at the sea, hence the name. The legs of the race are as follows: cross country ski, downhill ski, running, road bike, canoe, mt. bike, kayak. The best of the best comes in under 7 hours! Wowza.
I've never participated in Ski to Sea, although I really want to either do the road bike or running leg one day. I do, however, participate in the other activities Ski to Sea has to offer: drinking, eating and spectating!
I met my friend Jen in Fairhaven (where the race ends) and we dealt with the scene that is the beer garden for as long as we could handle it. We only lasted 1 beer. Since I haven't been drinking very often, 1 beer is enough for me.

We then moved onto activity number 2: eating. I had gelato - chocolate, caramel and coconut gelato. bomb. But my tummy didn't really like the fact that I got a medium...should have had the small. Then off to activity number 3: spectating. Watching the kayakers come into the finish line is always cool - I'd like to watch some of the other legs someday.
Ski to Sea is a lot of fun, but there are SO many people, it gets kind of crazy. I only lasted a couple hours down there before I had enough and rode my bike home. Oh yeah, you HAVE to ride your bike if going to Ski to Sea in Fairhaven. The traffic gets crazy bad and it is twice as fast to hop on a bike and ride. Just so you know...for next time. : )
