In preparation for 4th of July...

4th of July is my FAVORITE holiday. I love fireworks, BBQ's, cold beer and (hopefully) sunny weather. I also like that it is a day that people really show their American pride with flags and patriotic stuff. Just a couple thoughts on America's birthday:

  • The Pioneer Woman is doing an "America" photo contest on her blog right now and it is really cool to see what "America" is to different people. Check out the photos here. And if you've never checked out Pioneer Woman's site, you should anyway.
  • On the radio this morning (KAFE 104.1) there was a discussion about American flags and aparently a guy bought a flag at the dollar store and it looked wrong to him, so he counted the stars and it had 61 stars! What?! The radio host said, "its not like the standards of the American flag are guidelines..." and I thought that was SO funny. But it makes me think...the majority of American flags are not made in America, therefore the people that are making them don't know what the stripes and the stars symbolize.
  • I have yet to put my plans for the holiday weekend in stone, but it looks like I'll be heading south for the weekend.
In non American news, I had a nice run today. I'm on a 3-day running streak, yes! I was going to swim, but I was invited to swim tomorrow with some ladies, so I decided to hold off until tomorrow. So I ran instead. Ran a total of 50 minutes for 5.3 miles. Wowza - that's a long run for me! Felt really good though considering I ran the past 2 days.

Since the race on Saturday I have been feeling so eager and motivated to train! Before the race I was in a little rut and couldn't find motivation for the life of me. I like how motivating a race can be - I know I can do a triathlon, now I want to get faster! Do you feel more motivated after a race?
