Gnarly Gnats

After work today I hurried over to Lake Padden to meet a few gals for a swim. It was another lovely summer day (75 degrees), so a swim sounded more than perfect.

I was testing out some new goggles I got last week and I'll just say this upfront, they sucked. Well, I take that back. They may be great goggles for someone with eyes farther apart than my own, but for me, no bueno. I had leaky goggles the whole swim. I LOVE leaky goggles, don't you?

From start to finish, the swim was 25 minutes, but I'd take 3 minutes off for goggle related stops.

Post swim, I went for a run which I expected to be slow and hard because my quads have been super sore from my weight sesh the other day, but to my surprise, the run was speedy (for me) and easy. I ran 4.55 miles in 40 minutes. Had some good mile splits in there including 2 of them at 8:35, holler! I could of easily ran more, but I'm supposed to be resting and tapering for STP this weekend.

On my run today I ran into (literally) a bagillion (yes, that's a number) gnats! They must love this warmer weather and the trails because they were present in the masses. There was one strip of the trail where I'm not sure I had my eyes open for more than a second at a time. I even got one of them in my eye! Nasty. I decided to take the rest of my run off piest (I'm not sure this phrase is applicable off snow) to avoid the swarms. What I hate MOST of all about gnats is them in combination with sweat. They stick way too well to sweat. Yuck.

I'll be back tomorrow with 3 things...
