Feeling sick after 9 miles

Hey blog world. I just ran 9 miles – success! I decided I’d run 3+ laps at Lake Padden because I wanted to be able to run by my car and grab gels, water, etc. when I needed to. But the down fall of running at Padden is that it is hilly, the loops is only 2.6 miles and I know the trail so well that I knew how much farther I had to go to finish a lap…which was all I thought about.

I took a Hammer Gel at mile 5.2 and some H2O. Grabbed some more H2O at mile 7.5 then an electrolyte tablet when I was done. Felt pretty good the whole time besides a little knee aching and some slower paces, but I’m just happy that I finished all 9 miles. Thank goodness! Here are my splits:

Mile 1: 8:55
Mile 2: 9:15
Mile 3: 9:04
Mile 4: 9:23
Mile 5: 9:36
Mile 6: 9:13
Mile 7: 10:12 (a few walking breaks)
Mile 8: 9:28
Mile 9: 9:27
Average pace: 9:24

I got home and felt like crap. I don’t think I consumed enough calories on the run. My Garmin said I burned over 1,000 calories on the run, do you think that is correct? I weigh 140 lbs and ran for 1:25. Either way, I felt like I was going to pass out after I took a shower, so I shoved some protein down and now I feel a tad better, but not 100%.

I like that I have been doing my long runs during the week and not pushing them off until the weekend. It makes longer runs seem like just another mid-week run instead of this crazy workout I have to do on the weekend. Maybe it is just a mental thing, but I has made doing my longer runs easier.

Here are some more fun pictures from my vacation. These are from our visit to the Vince Shute Bear Sanctuary. Basically, you get put in the cage while the bears roam freely and grub on food.

The best part of seeing the bears was my nephew Grayson’s excitement. He thought they were the coolest thing ever. SO cute!

Don’t worry, I still have a TON of vacation photos to share. : )
