| Am I really about to run in the rain? |
The race is ran though scenic trails of Whatcom Falls park, which I rarely run, so the change of scenery is nice. I'm always reminded when I do run there how much I love it and that I should go back soon. The course has a lot of ups and downs and one long, gradual up that had my lungs burning at the end.
I paced off of a guy going about 8:30-8:45 and we leap frogged though the ENTIRE course. I wonder if I was annoying him? I wasn't annoyed, I liked his pace. That's a compliment, right?
The rain actually didn't bother me at all, it was the puddles. HUGE puddles on the trails. And mud. I had avoided them until the last .15 miles of the course when I tried to avoid it, but ended up running into another puddle that fully submerged my foot. Awesome. At least I was done and my boot dryers were ready to dry out my shoes at home.
My time was 41:00 flat, according to my Garmin. Whoa, I thought, that's really good for me. But then I looked at the distance. 4.66 miles?! It wasn't a full 5 miles?! Is my Garmin not calibrated correctly? Or is the race really that short? I think I'm going to email the race director and look into it...
Overall, it was a fun first event. But my first BIG event is coming up in a couple weeks - Lake Samammish Half Marathon!
Did you race this weekend?

Good job, Megan!! It's totally rainy here in Portland, too. I'm supposed to be slurping down a beer at the finish line of a 15k right now, but I stayed home sick :-(
ReplyDeleteGood luck getting ready these next few weeks before the half marathon!
Wow - great time! I raced this weekend, and it felt good to get back out after a 4 week lay-off.
ReplyDeletenice, that is a great time, especially in the rain! I had a 5k today and it was freeeezing but it went really well. Have a great rest of your weekend :)
ReplyDeletethe rain totally would have scared me off! great time and way to smash that pr. i did not race this weekend...i think all the st.patty day races are next weekend here? oh how lazy i am haha!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations for getting out there in the rain!
ReplyDeletegreat job!! you will totally be ready for your half!
ReplyDeleteI love when I end up leap frogging people. I feel pretty confident in my ability to hold steady to a pace, so I always end up laughing out loud when people start moving ahead, and back, ahead, and back. It's just like on the highway - you can tell who has cruise control and who doesn't.
ReplyDeleteGreat job... that weather looks nasty though! Good job toughing it out... I might have gone back to bed! :)
ReplyDeleteGood job on the run! I stayed in bed most of the day staying out of the rain and wind! Blech! Roll on summer eh?
ReplyDeleteNice job! It sounds like everyone's St. Patty's Day runs were mighty wet this year.
