I'm at 99 followers. Holy cow! There are quite a few entries for my
Oiselle giveaway - thanks everyone who entered! For those of you who haven't - get on it - it ends Wednesday. But the 20% promo only lasts until Monday.
Last Tuesday, I checked the weather and it said sunny and 70+ degrees for both Saturday and Sunday. I immediately posted this on Facebook (cause what else do you do when you think of awesome things?!)
"I just looked at the weather for this coming weekend and I can already make a couple predictions of what will happen: a glorious, sunny LONG bike ride, an open water swim (or two), RUNNING in tank tops, numerous applications of sunscreen (I'm white!) and plenty of stretching/foam rolling. Who's with me?!"
So I've been excited since then to get some quality training in, in the SUN! Fact: today is the first day since last September that Western Washington has reached over 70 degrees. It's been too long sun, too long.
I hopped out of bed at 7am - sun already shining - and got on my bike for a longer bike ride. I always get a little nervous for long bike rides by myself due to boredom, but today the sun was my friend and it carried me through 46 miles of gloriousness.

I rode from Bellingham to Birch Bay State Park and back which is pretty flat with a couple hills. I averaged 15.5 mph and it took me 3 hours.

| Ze Masi. Couldn't find my 2nd bike water bottle so I used an Aquafina as a back up bottle. Don't do it - they're noisy. |
In previous solo long rides, I have experienced horrible moods and I blame it on improper nutrition and craptastic weather. Today I made sure to drink plenty of Nuun and eat. I ate 200 calories on the bike, and in hindsight, probably should have eaten more, but those 6 Clif Shot Bloks did the trick and I felt fantastic.
I'll be continuing my sunny training tomorrow morning with a 7-8 run and hopefully an OWS. Till then...
What a great bike ride!

Beautiful day for a ride! I saw a ton of cyclists today while I was running long (Mercer Island + Mercer Slough trails). Birch Bay looks so refreshing! Have a good run tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you had a Masi, but then again why would I? Nice.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was so funny on the news last night that they had to remind us the "rules" of sunny weather...ie sunscreen and hydration. Ya...it's been awhile since we've had to worry about any of that around here :D
