Since October, I've swam so little I'm embarassed to tell you how many yards that equals... What? It was off season! Anyway, I need to start building my swim base again before serious training starts in a couple months, so I am challenging myself to swim 20,000 yards by the end of January. This may seem miniscule to some, but for me to get this done I need to get up early and in the pool 3 days a week for the next 3.5 weeks.
I don't know how I've lost my motivation to wake up and go to the gym in the past few months. I used to ONLY workout in the AM and now I do most of my sweating in the PM. But swimming after work sucks because the pool is ALWAYS full and my stomach usually isn't digested enough to swim, so I really need to find what works for me to get up, drive to the pool, swim, drive home, shower and be at work before 9am. This is very doable, just gotta put the plan in motion, which is the hard part.
I put a little countdown on the top of my sidebar so I can mark down all the yards I swim - I hope that is motivating in itself. When do you swim?
I have a hard time motivating myself to get to the pool. I want to try a similar challenge- sounds interesting!
ReplyDeleteyou can do it!!
ReplyDeleteI have been a bad swimmer lately too! I swam once last week, and I'd be lying if I didn't admit that half of the reason why I swam is because the sun was out and the weather was 70* so I figured I could get a little tan.
I know you will find the motivation, just think about how good it will feel to get your day started with a swim!
xoxo!
Sounds good! You can do it!! I swim when the gym opens at 5am. Not even awake yet by the time I'm halfway through. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen do I swim? I don't. I mean, I know HOW to swim but it's just not something I really enjoy. I would like to knock a tri off my bucket list sometime in my future tho...
ReplyDeleteGood luck with that. I haven't swam since August and want to get back to it but like you, it's hard to get it going. For me best is a.m. or during lunch time.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your swimming goal. I would tell you when I swim but that would require that I actually swim. Whoops!
ReplyDeleteI swim at night because its empty then. I also have zero motivation to swim in the morning. Sounds like we are on opposite swim plans? haha!
ReplyDeleteGood luck this month!
I swim in the morning. 2-3x per week at 5am I am in the water and going. I'm usually done by 6am and then able to run or bike and be done with it all by 8am the latest.....shower and ready for work.
ReplyDeleteIn theory, Sundays, Mondays, Fridays, with "in thoery" being the operative.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how quickly we fall out of that early morning routine. Normally I swim 5:45-7am 3x/week with a masters swim team, but I'm working on some form improvements so I've been swimming alone after work. It's a nice change of pace, but I know it's going to be tough to make the switch back to early mornings.
