2013: the year of the bike

2012 was a year for meeting and exceeding goals. Gosh it feels good to check stuff off the list! You can look back at this post and see what my goals were and I'm happy to say that I got shit done this year. Every single one of those goals met. My mileage for each swimming, running and biking increased over what was done in 2011 with these numbers:

Swim: 164,140 yards (93 miles)
Bike: 2,116 miles
Run: 1,155 miles

I'd like to get in similar numbers this year in swimming and running, but double my miles in biking. 4,000 miles on the bike.

2013 is the year of the bike.

Here is the plan: The front half of the year will be spent working toward a sub-4:00 marathon at Tacoma City on May 5th, then continuing training to do my first 70.3 at Lake Stevens in July. After Lake Stevens my focus will shift to biking to do some long Fall rides, perhaps a century, and a lot of cyclocross racing.

Of course I'll continue to run the entire year, but I will not run a Fall marathon. Don't try and convince me, my mind has been made up. I hope to do a half marathon in the Fall and perhaps try to PR in the 10k, but my energy will be mostly spent getting better, faster, stronger on the bike.

Event wise, I've put a few races out on my 2013 race schedule tab above, if you're interested.

Now that my foot is recovered and my body rested from only running 39 miles in December, I'm all into marathon training yet again. Sub 4 or bust! 16 weeks until Tacoma City!

  1. Here we go new training cycle! That is the same weekend as the Flying Pig, so bring on the insanity!

You impress me with your ability to fit in training for all three sports! I need to find a pool soon.

  2. I'm doing Lake Stevens too! How exciting! We should meet up some time and do a ride together! Great job blowing your mileage out of the park...hope 2013 is even better!

  3. You have a great plan Megan, I like it! There are a lot of people doing Lake Stevens this year. I might consider it next year, but I need to do some sprint triathlons first. Need to know what I am getting myself into first.

  4. I love that you are focusing on biking and now one of my goals for 2013 is to come cheer you on at a cyclocross race!

  5. Yay for year of the bike and cyclocross!! Sounds very similar to what I've got planned for the year except that I will be running a half-marathon on May 5th instead of a full.
