I'm deeming today the start of marathon training. It was supposed to start last week, but shit happens, so this week it is!
My nagging foot issue, which turns out is a cramped cuboid, it doing okay. After standing on concrete floor for 8 hours two days in a row at Rock n Roll Arizona expo sampling Nuun, it felt 'twingy' so I decided to not run the half marathon while I was down there. Not bummed about it AT ALL. I got to cheer on M2 & Kim and hang out in the sun. Couldn't complain.
Today gifted me a fantastic 6 mile run at lunch - a runch - that pushed me right into marathon training mode. I got excited, motivated, even giddy at work and all I wanted to do was stare at my Excel spreadsheet which holds the plan. I can't wait to start running double digits, visit the track, and believe it or not, start cutting away at my massive bag full of Gu's and Shot Blocks. Weird, I know, but a girl in need of pure carbs is a girl in training!
This marathon I'm training for is the Tacoma City Marathon on May 5th. It is a local point-to-point marathon starting in Gig Harbor and ending in Tacoma, WA. They are claiming "net downhill" which is what CIM claimed. They may be right in the fact that the finish is at lower elevation than the start, but it ain't all down hill, so hill training (both up and down) is necessary is this training plan. As Iron Maiden says: RUN TO THE HILLS!
I really, really, REALLY, want to get a time that starts with a 3 for this marathon and I absolutely believe I have it in me. I'm ready to put in the hard work!
